La valigia in viaggio

Di ogni viaggio attendo sempre l’ebrezza del volo.

Adoro volare. Provo la gioia di non avere i piedi per terra e di poter scrutare il mondo da lassù, dove le nuvole sembrano montagne di panna montata.

Facciamo delle riflessioni che riguardano sia i voli low cost che le tratte lunghe.

1. Meglio il posto in corridoio o quello vicino al finestrino?

Direi proprio che stare vicino al finestrino ha il suo fascino. Le Alpi, l’isola vulcanica, il deserto, il Mar Morto, il mare, il  mare e il mare, e perfino la cupola dorata di Gerusalemme. Avete idea di cosa significhi avere la prospettiva dall’alto di tutto ciò?

Tuttavia, mi sono anche resa conto che per i lunghi viaggi in aereo è preferibile il posto che dà campo libero al corridoio. E’ davvero seccante dover svegliare il tipo accanto per potersi sgranchire le gambe e, peggio ancora, dover andare in bagno.

2. Le compagnie aeree (più precisamente, alcuni aerei di determinate compagnie).

Ryanair mi ha “iniziata” ai viaggi in aereo. Nulla da dire, fino a quando scopri che c’è chi, a parità di prezzo, offre di più. Va bene, il bagaglio a mano comprende la valigia cm 40 x 55 x 20 e una borsa 35 x 20 x 20, cose che, la Wizz Air, bellissimo con quel colore rosa, restringe a una sola, piccola valigia gratuita delle dimensioni di una scatola di scarpe.

Air Berlin fa un saltello di qualità. Ci sono schermi che mostrano a che punto è il volo e il personale, attento al viaggiatore, offre una bevanda, un piccolo snack e un cioccolatino a fine viaggio (almeno così è stato l’ultima volta che ho volato con la suddetta compagnia).

La Czech Airlines, che utile mi fu per fare in men che non si dica la tratta Budapest – Praga, davvero mi scioccò. Innanzi tutto, avevo il bagaglio a mano che sforava, se pur di poco, il peso limite consentito. Immaginate quando la signorina addetta al Check In, ci appiccicò sopra un’etichetta giallo evidenziatore, spiegandomi che essendo non propriamente piccino, andava messo in una vattela a pesca stiva. Nel timore di pagare il di più, cercavo di spiegarle che da borsone qual’era, aveva la magia di modificare le sue dimensioni. Al suo ripetuto e incazzoso “It’s too big” tacqui e solo nel vedere l’aereo compresi tutto.

Era un aereo piccolo quanto neanche un autobus, con tanto di elica stile elicottero e hostess ben più mature delle colleghe delle altrui compagnie. Quella volta dubitai seriamente che sarei arrivata a destinazione (non certo per le hostess, sia chiaro) e invece, con molta sorpresa, anche qui ho riscontrato la premura di offrire bevanda e spuntino ai passeggeri. Come a dire che, a confronto, Wizz Air e Ryanair fanno la figura dei tirchi taccagni.

Veniamo alle tratte lunghe con Royal Jordanian. Comodi sedili (nei limiti della classe economy), aereo grande il doppio della Ryanair e il quadruplo della Czech Airlines, schermo sistemato sul retro del sedile di quello d’avanti e  dotato di giochi, musica e films. Per l’appunto le hostess ti consegnano le cuffiette (da trapanarci le orecchie), un cuscino e una coperta per trascorrere dormendo le tante ore di viaggio. Poi arriva la cena (o il pranzo) e pure la colazione.

Infine concludo con la Thai Airways (tratta Bangkok – Chiang Mai), l’aereo del popolo del sorriso per eccellenza. Nessuna seccatura se ti vedono con una busta oltre i bagagli, tanti sorrisi e un bel panino da sgranocchiare tutto bello incelofanato e messo in un sacchettino con tanto di bottiglietta d’acqua (oltre ad una seconda bevanda a scelta). Non come quelli che ti costringono a comprare due bicchieri d’acqua al costo di due litri d’acqua!

3.  Vi state chiedendo se ho paura di volare?

La risposta è no. Ho più paura del pizzicotto di una puntura. Il mio segreto è non anticiparmi affatto alcun tipo di film del genere drammatico o tragico che si voglia e godermi il volo.

Ho il naso appiccicato al finestrino e la testa, quasi, tra le nuvole. Un sogno…

Welcome aboard

For each journey, I’m always excited to fly.

I love the feeling of not having feet on the ground and looking out over the world from up there, where the clouds appear mountains of whipped cream and the sky is so close.

With my first trip beyond the borders of Europe, I had the opportunity to add to the list of low-cost airlines, longer flight routes.

Here, then, the first issue.

 Is it better an aisle seat or a window seat?
Sitting in a window seat. has its charm. The mountains, the volcanic island, the Dead Sea, the sea, the sea and again the sea, and even the golden dome of Jerusalem … do you have any idea what it’s like to have the high-altitude perspective of all this?

However, I also realized that for long trips, it’s better the aisle seat. It ‘s really annoying to have to wake up the neighbor only for stretching the legs or for going to the bathroom.

Another issue concerns the airlines.

My first flight was with Ryanair. Nothing to say, until you find out that there are other airlines. Okay, carry on luggage it includes the suitcase 40 x 55 x 20  and a bag 35 x 20 x 20, while the free luggage of Wizz Air, with that beautiful pink color, is only a suitcase with the dimensions of a shoebox.

Air Berlin is a qualitative leap: there are screens showing flight info and the staff, attentive to the traveler, offers a drink, a small snack and a chocolate at the end of the flight (this was my experience with the airline company.).

The Czech Airlines, was useful from Budapest to Prague but it has really shocked me. First of all, my hand luggage exceeded, albeit slightly, the weight limit allowed. Imagine when the lady at ceck in, stuck a yellow label, explaining that my bag, not really small, was as an hold baggage. Fearing to pay more, I tried to explain to her that my bag was only a duffel bag, able to change its size. When she (very angry) said “It ‘too big” I fell silent.

It was a small plane, complete with propellers and hostess more mature than colleagues of others companies. That time I doubted seriously that I would have reached my destination (not for the hostess), and instead even here they offer drinks and snacks to passengers. As if to say that, in comparison, Wizz Air and Ryanair are really stingy. Ah, my hand baggage was free.

Let’s talk about long distances aboard the Royal Jordanian. Comfortable seats (within the limits of the economy class), big airplane (twice the Ryanair and four times the Czech Airlines), screen on the back of each seat with games, music and movies.The hostess will deliver the headphones, a pillow and a blanket for sleeping. Then gets dinner (or lunch) and even breakfast.Finally,

I conclude with the Thai Airways (from Bangkok to Chiang Mai). No hassle if they see you with a bag in addition to your hand luggage, many smiles and a sandwich to munch, a small bottle of water and a second drink of your choice. Not like the ones that force you to buy two glasses of water at a cost of two liters of water!

Last point. Am I afraid of flying?

The answer is no. My secret is “not to anticipate” any kind of tragic event and enjoy the flight.

My nose is glued to the window and my head is almost in the clouds. A dream…
